India

Life's a Beach
29 January 2007
Hampi, Karnataka, India

Last night, we pushed/pulled ourselves from the womb of relaxation/laziness that is Palolem Beach. Palolem, in many ways, was exactly what we needed: a place designed for swimming and sitting around; a place where the most strenuous activity of the day might be turning a page; a place where thinking about anything at all is not required or even expected. Shanti-Shanti: takin' it easy.

Still, it ended up being fairly expensive. While it wasn't really much over our budget, India was meant to be one of the places we made up financial ground after the budget-straining weeks in Europe… but who wants to hear about money worries?

It's hard to say exactly what we did for the 11 days we stayed in Palolem, short of listing the books we read. We won't bore you with that list. We did go on a short boat trip, in which we saw dolphins. We didn't do the sightseeing we had thought of in Goa: no Anjuna Market; no Old Goa. We just basked in the sunshine and soaked up the easy-going atmosphere of Goa's beach culture!
