A Detour and a Wedding
12 February 2007
Agra-Jaipur Road, India
After a very difficult time waking up this morning, we had our breakfast at the hotel, put our bags in the car, and hit the road around 9 a.m. We've been traveling all day and are now in the small village of Abhaneri, the site of a major Hindu temple that was largely destroyed by the Moghal emperor Aurangzeb in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The temple is amazing, and unfortunately no photo can do justice to the beauty of the place. We arrived here on one of Mr. Dutt's ‘detours’ off the National Highway. We are very lucky to have such a knowledgeable guide, as this place, as well as some of the others we've seen since we joined Mr. Dutt, is not in any tourist guide book.
We plan to arrive in Jaipur sometime after sunset, and spend tomorrow seeing the museums, palaces and forts in that city.

We have now arrived in Jaipur. The city seems relatively clean and hassle-free, with wide streets and many nice shops. Across from our hotel, there was a Hindu wedding last night, which we were invited to participate in. There were many (unlimited, as Mr. Dutt would have it) bright flashing lights and music loud enough to send the hard-of-hearing scrambling for earplugs! Tomorrow, we plan to do some sightseeing, and also visit an astrologer who, using the exact time and place of birth, provides a computer-generated horoscope. It should be an interesting experience!
